Plucky Piper Flourishes, Thanks to Your Support.

Piper the CatYou may remember our story about a young kitten rescued from a sewer drain by City of Norfolk Public Works employees. While nursing her back to health, we also discovered she was born without functioning eyelids, which required multiple surgeries to correct. Thanks to your generous outpouring of support via the Friends of the Norfolk Animal Care Center, she received these surgeries by traveling all the way to Pennsylvania to be seen and treated by a specialist.

While Piper will need at least one more surgery in the near future, she has improved enough to say goodbye to foster mom Tracy and hello to new mom Amanda!

Long time foster care provider Tracy describes it as one of the hardest goodbyes she has faced, and promised not to cry until she got home, but Piper has an equally capable new mom in Amanda. You see, Amanda is also a vet tech. She met Piper during her many trips for re-assessment and also fell in love with the enchanting ball of gray fur.

While our story of Piper has neared its completion, a new round of needy kittens will be coming our way as spring approaches. Foster care provides hundreds of our underage kittens the nurturing environment they need to become adoption-ready. If you'd like to learn more about becoming a foster home, and truly being a lifesaver, please visit the NACC website for more information. You can choose the level of commitment, the number of animals, and the frequency and duration of your foster commitment. It's an incredibly rewarding experience.

We extend our gratitude to the many fine people who assisted Piper during her journey. General Booth Veterinary Hospital, City of Norfolk Government Public Works Crew, Norfolk SPCA No-Kill Adoption Center & Veterinary Clinics veterinary staff, the community of generous donors, and of course, foster-mom Tracy and family, and adoptive mom Amanda. We can only hope Piper understands she is loved by so many. #adoptNACC #fosterNACC
