Friends of Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center is a charitable foundation created to support the work and maximize the resources of NACC. As a municipal animal control agency, city funding provides basic food, shelter and preventive vaccines. However, a number of animals arrive ill, injured or otherwise in need of additional care.
Sit, Stay Eat is a collection of unique and delicious recipes published by Friends of Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center. Sales benefit NACC. Click here to learn more and to order your copy.
More pets are finding themselves in shelters as some people are forced to make a choice between feeding their families or feeding their pets. So Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center created the Southside’s first Pet Pantry in 2011.
Donations of pet food are much appreciated. Donations may be dropped off at NACC. To learn more about the Friends Pet Pantry program or to apply, click here.
Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center can use many household items to make
the animals' stay more comfortable. Towels, blankets, cat litter, toys, treats and more are always needed.

Volunteering at NACC is one of the most rewarding ways to directly help animals during their transitions. Positions range from animal caretakers to office help. NACC relies on its dedicated volunteers to make animal success stories possible.
Attendance at a volunteer orientation is required for most positions. To get started, contact the Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center Volunteer Coordinator at (757) 441-5505, ext. 307 or check out the NACC website for volunteer FAQ's and application form.
Fostering pets is another way to volunteer. Animals that are too young for adoption, recovering from an injury or in need of a different environment, rely on foster families to give them the time and support they need to get ready for adoption. Foster homes provide one-on-one time and attention to hundreds of dogs and cats each year. Fostering can last a few days to a few months.
The program is flexible -- NACC matches the animals to the volunteer's lifestyle and schedule. For people who don't have time for a full-time pet companion, fostering is win-win. The foster provides a short-term opportunity for a lifetime of success. Momma cats with litters, orphaned kittens and puppies have the greatest need. NACC always is seeking additional foster homes, especially during the spring and summer months which are the busiest times of year for the shelter. NACC supplies foster families with food and bedding. If you are interested in fostering, learn more here or call Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center at (757) 441-5505.
One of our most popular events of the year,Dogs Gone Swimming is an annual fundraisesr presented by Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center to benefit NACC. Eagerly anticipated by dogs and their families, this fun experience closes out the summer with pool swims, entertainment, contests and more, while raising money to support a variety of programs including medical care, fostering, adoption and more.
A newer fundraiser, Dogtoberfest also is presented by Friends to benefit Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center. Featuring barks and brew, we appreciate the support of O'Conner Brewing Co. Man’s best friend is also welcome as long as he or she is leashed and dog friendly.
